Minister says Russia to boost grain exports due to record harvest

MOSCOW, Mar 28 (PRIME) -- Russia’s bumper grain harvest of the past few years sets the goal of raising exports from the current 38 million tonnes, Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachyov said on Wednesday.

“Considering record grain harvests in the past few years, it is crucial to continue to boost exports,” he said. “We count on exports of about 53 million tonnes of grain this season. Grain sales has increased by 40% as of today compared to the previous season and exceeded 38 million tonnes.”

He added that grain shipments to China jumped 6-fold in 2017 after signing new sanitary documents.

The minister also said that in 2018 Russian animal product exporters entered the markets of nine countries including Japan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
